K + H: The Wedding

May 15, 2010

Gayle Dunkelberger, Hugh’s old landlord and bestest surrogate Aunt, has generously offered her B&B in CT as an option for someone looking to make a wedding getaway more affordable. Here’s her email message:

Hugh and Katherine: Here is an offer of a contribution for lodging. Geographically it may not be practical – My lake lodge.  Google Maps say it’s an hour and fifteen minutes…..  (not during rush hours). I have it rented during some of the weeks in the spring (Summer is all booked up!) I do not have anyone there from May 13th to May 20th. There are 5 bedrooms, all sleep two (couples) but one is larger and sleeps four. There are a few nooks and crannies where a few more can sleep,  to total about 12 or 13  in all, relatively comfortably. I have to be a little careful about the septic system so I don’t overload much more than that. Hugh has been there but I think not since I had it all renovated and winterized. Also brand new larger dock. There are now 4 full bathrooms. As I mentioned, it may be too far … far but free!! …  might appeal to some of those who are budgeting for now. I would  just ask that guests would just clean up  a bit before they go as I will have renters soon after.  I usually go up to clean before the renters come. Here’s my old B&B website which now I only use for renters who want to see more pictures and info about the area.  www.bythelakebb.com. If this is viable I would like to know about a week or two before arrivals.

WOW! If anyone is interested, please email us at kandh@ktherapy.com and we can put everyone in touch with one another.

Here are some pics FYI:

The big day is getting closer and with it is my increased joy and anticipation. The weather is getting better, glad to finally have the snow gone and have switched to the fleece jacket over the large heavy coat.

I had a lovely surprise this past Sunday and my wedding ladies took me to lunch at the Roadhouse just so we could all take a gander at it again. I took some iPhone pics of the patio area, hopefully the weather will cooperate and there won’t be a motorcycle rally that day.

We are thinking of creating a “Bootleg Wedding” edition – any requests?

Please let us know if there is any piece of information that you need to settle your travel arrangements. It’s truly no bother.

Here are some of our favorite places, restaurants and some ideas of things to do in the area.

It’s not as much fun as the ads and magazines make it out to be. It’s kind of scary and overwhelming, and that’s why I am utterly grateful that I have the best ladies I could imagine as my helpers. Sharon, Liz and Roberta – Thank You!!

Keep your calendars marked for a Redding Roadhouse noon-time event on May 15, 2010. It is planned as a small, outdoor patio, intimate affair.

Bring a shawl, it is New England and who knows what Mother Nature will bring, although I have put in my order for 72-degrees and sunny. It will (hopefully) be outdoors so bring allergy medicine if that is something you may need.

Be prepared for great food and the best people.

Stay tuned for lodging and activity ideas for the out-of-towners.

Can’t wait to see everyone there. I’ll be the overdressed one in white!!
